- Preparation for quality work, including the removal of damage from edges and the base surface.
- Repairing and sanitizing damaged base surfaces by bonding with adequate liquid plastic.
- Grinding repaired damage on the base surface and sharpening edges.
- Waxing—applying hot wax to the prepared base surface in multiple layers as needed.
- Rough brushing of the applied wax with specialized tools and cleaning edges of wax residue.

Post-season equipment storage: In addition to repairing damage and applying wax, it is vital to protect the most sensitive parts of skis and snowboards: the edges. Without protection, edges are highly susceptible to rusting while not in use. One effective method is coating the steel edges with an appropriate protective layer to prevent moisture from the air from reaching them. All metal parts, including bindings, are protected in the same way.
From our experience, the most common damage seen at the start of a season—on equipment that didn't receive protective service at the end of the previous one—is rust. Rust causes deep structural damage to the edges that is difficult to repair properly. Winter sports equipment is expensive and sensitive even when not in use; therefore, it should be handled responsibly for the sake of safety, as snow recreation carries a risk of injury.
